Why is there oil on the top half of the spark plug?

I have a chevy 350 and I changed the spark plugs yesterday. I noticed one of the plugs was oil fouled. After driving a few miles today I decided to check the new plug and see what it looks like. I noticed that there was only oil on the upward facing portion of the plug. why is this? I am hoping that it will be just a head job.

Sounds like the valve stem seals need to be changed, wouldnt hurt to install a new pair of heads or rebuild the ones you have.

The valve cover gasket was damaged when you replaced the spark plugs. It happens and it should be cheap to replace it and souldn't be hard at all
