Do I have to reset the engine light After changing the spark plugs and a sensor ?

It's a 2005 Dodge Stratus. Engine light on before and we had it read.
Do I have to reset the engine light After changing the spark plugs and a sensor ?
I DONT THINK IS BOTH THAT TURN THE LIGHT ON BUT AS A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY FOR LIKE 30 MIN AND THEN RECONNECT THE CABLES THE LIGHT WILL STAY OFF BUT IF IT TURNS BACK ON IT WAS NOT WHAT YOU REPLACES ITS SOMETHING ELSE
Do I have to reset the engine light After changing the spark plugs and a sensor ?
you have to have a machine to shut it off.
Personally i've never had to do that...if it's still on it's probably either the spark plugs and the sensor are either not installed properly or something else is wrong...
Read your owner's manual. Also, ask the service department at your dealership. Many car CPU's must be reset by a special tool, or re-programmed. Some computers are %26quot;stupid%26quot; and must be told what items or sensors have been changed. Some cars only require that you disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset. Many CPU's have learning memories that adjust themselves to the driving style of the owner. ASK at your dealership!!! Not to do so can cost you gas mileage, more sensor and component failures, and expensive power losses. Good Luck!!
To turn off the check engine light you can have a shop do it or, you can buy a KeyCode Reader. You can buy one at any one of your local auto parts stores. They should cost anywhere from 10 to 20 dollars for a cheap one. Once you've bought the code reader plug it into a slot that u can find by the gas and brake pedal. Hit search on the reader and hit erase to kill the code.
%26gt; spark plugs and a sensor ?

Spark plug - no

Sensor - yes.

they keep the code in the memory for diagnosis. The car assumes that the problem %26quot;went away%26quot; temporarily and will keep the code (and often the light) so the mechanic can see what happened.

good luck...
After any repair, the MIL (malfunction indicator light) should be reset to see if the repair worked. You cannot reset this by disconnecting the battery, you need a scan tool or 75 ignition on/off cycles (takes way to f*cking long) to clear the codes and determine if anything else needs to be looked at.
You don't have to reset it. But the engine light does let you know when it is time for maintenance or if there is a problem. So it would be a good idea. In most vehicles you can reset it by disconnecting the negative battery cable and letting it set for 5-20 minutes. Then reconnecting the battery cable. Some vehicles require it to be reset by a code reader, but I think that is only after it has registered a problem.
