Have code po303 changed spark plugs only spark plug three has oil on it what does this mean?

I assume it is a Ford based on the code you provided.

It means that there is oil getting into the plug galley for that plug, most likely due to a leaking valve cover gasket. There are o-rings that surround the plug galleys on the usual Inline 4 cylinder Ford motor that often go bad and let oil drip into the galleys where the plugs are located, eventually leaking into the threads of the plug and into the cylinder just like penetrating oil would.. The oil will contaminate the plugs and wires and cause misfires. Check the valve cover gasket for signs of leaks. Stick your finger into the plug galley, if it comes out with oil on it, replace the gasket.

Code po303 is Random engine misfire, probably being caused by the reason I listed above. Also, if you did not change the wires, make sure you do, especially if you had oil on the plug(s).

I doubt it is something internal, chances are it is something as simple as the Valve cover gasket leaking, so dont panic yet.

Note: If your piston rings were bad you would be blowing a ton of blue smoke out of the tail pipe and have a serious compression issue.

Update: Based on the additional info you provided, replace the valve cover gasket anyways, and replace the ignition wires, clean the new plugs with come carb cleaner before putting them back in to make sure there is no oil on them. Clear the trouble code, drive for a few days. If the same trouble code comes back, do a compression test on the cylinder that has an oil contamination problem. Also, run some injector cleaner through the fuel rail (or have a garage do it). Dont use the stuff you put in the tank, it will just stir up the dirt in the tank and complicate things. Use the propellant based cleaner that gets injected directly into the fuel rail. A dirty injector can cause a po303 code as well.

Never jump to the more severe solution when simpler solutions are often the answer.
Have code po303 changed spark plugs only spark plug three has oil on it what does this mean?
Oil or fuel? Could be bad plug, wire, cap, rotor, or coil pack, depending on car. Have to know make/model/year/and engine to help further.
Have code po303 changed spark plugs only spark plug three has oil on it what does this mean?
Piston rings are probably bad. But if you're lucky, it may just be a bad PCV valve.

Special tool for changing spark plugs on a sea ray boat?

we have a sea ray boat and the spark plugs are bad and we need to change them and they are really hard to get off and are located in the worst place (right under the engine) and is there a special tool we can buy to get under there a lot easier

please help :)

yeah, extensions and universals for your ratchet and socket set, nothing on a boats ever easy to get to, just take your time, think through it and with simple hand tools and patience you will be ok

What spark plug adds the most horsepower?

i have a 99 v6 mustang and im going to change the spark plugs and i wanna know which one adds the most horsepower?
What spark plug adds the most horsepower?
Horsepower is totally dependent on the bore and stroke of the engine and the condition of the fuel delivery system and condition of the ignition coil and wires. ALL new spark plugs will give exactly the same amount of horsepower. A good spark is a good spark--period. Once it lights the fire, the spark plug is out of the picture.

If you believe otherwise, you've fallen for marketing hype.

On the flip side, how LONG the spark plug can deliver a good spark IS open for discussion. That's where platinum and iridium come into the picture. They have a much higher melting point than ordinary copper electrodes. Since the hottest spark is one that just from a SHARP edge, you want a spark plug electrode that won't wear quickly.

The best metal out there for long life is iridium. Doesn't matter which brand.

Once again, don't fool yourself into thinking that one spark plug provides more HP than another, That's just advertsiing.
What spark plug adds the most horsepower?
spark plugs wont really add horsepower, their more efficient or accurate. that's all. they'll make an engine run better to its potential, like if your going from plugs that are very old and the gaps are wrong or are corroded, you'll notice a big difference. otherwise you wont notice more power, just cleaner or more efficient
Well the best are %26quot;Denso%26quot; kind of pricey but will add horsepower and performance.
what ever the OE spark plug is that is what you should put back in. Computerized cars have specific heat ranges that they are programed with so unless you have mods done to the engine I would stick to what the owners manual says to put in it. I own a 93 gt with the 302 in it and it burnt the living sh*t out of any of the hotter plugs. I paid $10 per plug for the denso iridium's and i was replacing them 6 months later. also, mustang don't like bosch, champion, or acdelco. I Auto light platinum's in mine and they do just fine. if you are looking for power, install a V8. that will help a lot ; )

Changed spark plug in 94 mercury capri, turns over wont start, getting, fire, fuel,?
Engines need 4 things to run, fire, fuel, air, and compression. If you are getting fire, fuel, and air and it is still not starting that leaves a compression problem. If you go to your local auto parts store you should be able to loan out a compression tester for a few bucks, real easy to use. Look in a Chilton or Haynes and it should tell you what the compression is. Test each cylinder if it is below you probably have a head gasket problem, it could even be rings or maybe worse. The timing is also very important that could keep it from running so make sure the timing is correct and the firing order is correct. There are also sometimes ignition or ecu fuses that are seperate from your fuel fuse or relay that could keep it from start but will still allow it to turn over. It would help if I was able to get a good description of what it sounds like when you turn it over, a lot can be told by the sound. If none of these work for you feel free to pm me and I can give you a few more things to check out.

Changing spark plugs 96 Jetta?

Ok, so i'm kinda new to the DIY auto scene, and my 96 Jetta gls needs new spark plugs. A few questions... My car (bought used) didn't come with a manual, so I don't know which size to buy. Second, which brand (if it matters) would give the best performance/reliability. Finally, do I need to disconnect the battery before attempting the job?
Changing spark plugs 96 Jetta?
The manual states to disconnect the battery before you do any type of maintenance to the car. You will need a special tool to remove the wires from the plugs the car had a plastic one originally snapped to the hood prop rod.

Brand does not matter. The main thing nowadays is the material, since many manufacturers recommend 60 to 100 thousand mile change intervals. Big change from the every 12 thousand back in the day (70's).

Get the best you can afford. Seems iridium is what the manufacturers are OEM'ing in new cars, so you really can't go wrong on these as a choice.

And no, the battery does not need to be disconnected when you change the spark plugs.
if you go to the parts store they will know what size you will need...there are only two sizes anyway. DO NOT!!! get any kind of spark plug with the word platinum in the name. they are usually more expensive and while sometimes making other cars run better they make these run worse. i've owned six 93-99 generation Jettas/golfs so i would know!
when you go to buy your spark plugs at a auto parts store ask the store clerk for help he will answer all your question for you on what you will need hope this answer your question

  • What does changing a spark plugs gap do? does it make the spark hotter?

if a car calls for .060 is a smaller gap gonna make it do something different than like a .090 gap?
What does changing a spark plugs gap do? does it make the spark hotter?
A lot goes into the decision of what gap is correct. First the compression ratio, grade of fuel being used, tye of axle ratio and type of transmission. Then there is the firing KV killa-volt. according to the type of ignition that you have. standard ignition with points and a condenser is 15,000 to 18,000 volts. HEI= high energy ignition will go to 60,000 volts and COP= coil over plug can go to 90,000. The last is CDI= capacitive discharge ignition and it is capable of 125,000 volts. So if you have a ignition system that is very strong, it can bridge the larger gap and provide a strong ignition. The spark plug is the other side of the equation, wrong plug and you have a poor running car. Stick with what the dealer recommends and you will eliminate any problems in that area. Hope this helps.
What does changing a spark plugs gap do? does it make the spark hotter?
well the larger the gaps is called for the hotter is may be but each car has their own ignition that is only capable of producing a spark hot enough for what it was designed to do. the spark doesnt get hotter when you change the gap but it changes the profile meaning that it changes its amperage and duration. be careful not to make it so small that it cant ignite and to large that it will be put out before the fuel is ignited.

Does 2004 Honda Civic Ex Has A Spark Plug Wire?

I need to tune up my car soon then i notice that the car has no spark plug wiring. Do i just need to change the spark plug only since it doesn't come with the wiring? What should i do if i would change my spark plug but don't dont have the wiring. Is it ok?
Does 2004 Honda Civic Ex Has A Spark Plug Wire?
It has coil boots..There on the bottom of the coil that you pulled out and most of them are changeable

Would a torn boot on a spark plug wire cause the car to run bad?

i was changing the spark plugs in my 2000 malibu and one of the wires was on good and the boot tore off would this make it run bad before i did this the car ran great
Would a torn boot on a spark plug wire cause the car to run bad?
that's definitely your problem if you can see the wire arcing.
Would a torn boot on a spark plug wire cause the car to run bad?
Yes it can. When you change the plugs should check the plug wires and make sure they are in good condition.
no i dont think so just put it back together as best as you can electrical tape may help but ill be better to ge a new wire
probably trying to short out on the block before it get to the spark plug replace the wire and check the firing order

My yamaha blaster won't start, i just changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Help please?

does it have spark? if it does your problem is gas related
My yamaha blaster won't start, i just changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Help please?
Put new gas in it, make sure it is properly mixed and very clean. Also check to see if the spark plug is working. One thing to try is see if the kick start is actually connecting to the spark plug or if it has a broken connection. The best and easiest idea is to take it to a Yamaha dealer and have them check it. They will find the problem for you and that way you don't waste money on things that arent fixing the problem.
My yamaha blaster won't start, i just changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Help please?
How long has it been since it was last started and how old is the gas in it? If the gas is over 3 months old it's likely the problem. Gasoline can turn to varnish very quickly when a vehicle is unused. Gasoline can also be many months old when you buy it because it's often stored for extended periods of time before being shipped off the your local station. If it's old but used right away it's OK but if you let it set around for a few months in your bike it turns to varnish and everything gets plugged up. Try spraying some starting fluid (ether) into the air intake and then start it right away. (Work quickly - it evaporates FAST.) If you don't have any buy the cheap stuff - it's all the same. If it fires up, runs a few seconds, then dies, it's not getting fuel.
Find the man who is deal with the air filter.

if yes then which one, positive or negative?
Do i need to pull off the battery cable when I'm changing my spark plugs?
GOD PEOPLE JUST DONT KNOW WHAT THERE TALKING ABOUT. IF YOU DONT KNOW SQUAT ABOUT CARS THEN DONT ANSWER THESE QUESTION. YOU DONT NEED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!
Do i need to pull off the battery cable when I'm changing my spark plugs?
not unless you want to kill yourself
    no
    Be a good idea!!! LOL

    The positive
As long as the car is turned off, it shouldn't be necessary to pull off the battery cable as the spark plugs don't receive a charge until the car is started.

Also, when you're removing battery cable, you should remove both cables and make sure they don't touch each other in the process.
    nope!
No, you don't have to disconnect the battery. There is no connection between the batt. and the spark plugs.
No. The spark in the spark plugs comes from the distributor, not from the battery. The only way the plugs will spark is if the car is running or you are trying to start it.
nope i did. it dosent matter atfer you diconect them.
No, it's not necessary to disconnect the battery but don't leave the key in the ignition in case some smart azz reaches in and trys to start it.

If you do have to disconnect the battery at some point, always remove the negative terminal first . If you remove the positive one first, you risk shorting out the battery if you accidentally touch the body with the wrench or pliers. I know a guy who touched the brake line doing this and blew a hole in it, all of a sudden he had an even bigger job to do.

I have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and I need to change the spark plugs...do I have plug wires too?
the 3.2L isuzu rodeo engines are coil on plug ignition. All you need for the spark plugs to be changed are 6 new spark plugs.
I have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and I need to change the spark plugs...do I have plug wires too?
Sad part is this women works on both of her trucks, 2 motorcycles and any other vehicle I normally get my hands on.

    yes
Plug wires go over the spark plugs to give a connection between the motor and distributor, otherwise there would be no spark to fire up the engine. Considering that you don't know about your vehicle or its parts I suggest you take it to a shop and let them do it
when u open ur bonnet and look in side ov it follow the leads from ur sparke plugs they will go 2 either a coil pack or 2 a dizzy coil pack looks like a square block with all 4 leads on 2 it a dizzy is round and normally orange in colour
Coil ignition is when each spark plug has it's own coil going to the spark plug, sometimes mounted right on top of the spark plug. I would just get new platinum plugs..... wires last a long time, and if you have coils for each spark plug, they almost never go bad, so you wont replace them.

Drop in MPG after changing spark plugs?

I just changed my plugs and wires in my 96 Nissan 200 sx 1.9 l SE and went from 33 mpg to about 25 . My gas needle hardly moves when I fill up before plug and wire change -using same gas station and same 97 grade ,just went 30 miles and the needle is already moving ? What can be causing this - the spark plugs that were taken out were fried ? do I need a new air filter -have a big cone air filter with cold air intake - could it be a dirty air filter with new plugs and wires ?

This makes no sense- new plugs , new wires= better MPG ????
Drop in MPG after changing spark plugs?
Did you use bosch brand plugs? Or any of the fancy 2, or 4 ground strap plugs? If so thats your prob.

Did you check and gap the new plugs to OEM spec? Plugs clam to be pre gapped but they aint.. You must always check and gap them.
Drop in MPG after changing spark plugs?
Well, according to the ancient law of fingerprints, whatever you did last is the cause of the problem now.

Are the new plugs exactly correct? Right heat range? Correctly gapped? Resistor or not?

And are the wires good? If they are resistance wires to get rid of radio interference, they could be a problem.

You are right. Things should have gotten better and what you did last dented something.
There's no way the spark plugs contributed to your 8 mpg economy loss. Perhaps when you were changing the spark plug wires you bumped the distributor a little, or knocked a sensor wire or vacuum hose loose.
Sounds as if you got the wrong brand plugs in the car. Did you get them from autozone, that will be your answer.

if you've got fuel in the bowl and you are getting spark to the plug, it should crank if you didnt mess with anything else.

oh and why the hell would you mess with the carb or spark plug with the engine only having 20 hours on it? thats WAAAAYYYYY low hours to even be messing with it regardless of whether it sat up for the winter or not.

you likely voided any kind of service warranty you had on it by doing that.

I have a Troy-Bilt TB426 Push Lawn Mower and it won't start. I changed the spark plug but it still won't start
You need to check to see if it has spark. Remove the spark plug attach the wire and ground the plug on the engine, have someone crank it. It should have spark, if not it could be the ignition coil. If it has spark, it is most likely that the carburetor needs to be cleaned. You could also put a teaspoon of gas into the sparkplug hole, replace the plug and wire and try to start it. If it tries to start but won't stay running it is a fuel problem. Either not getting fuel to the carb or the carb is dirty.
If you hit something while mowing you have bent the shear pin. Untill this is replaced...it won't start.

What does a Resistor do in a spark plug ? And why wont my bike start ?

Ive changed my old spark plug %26quot;BR7HS%26quot; with a %26quot;B7HS%26quot; And now the bike wont start.

Ive been told the %26quot;R%26quot; stands for Resistor. What does this do and why is it effecting my bike ?
What does a Resistor do in a spark plug ? And why wont my bike start ?
The resistor in a spark plug cancels out RFI (Radio Frequency Interence). RFI can disrupt electronic igniton system and fuel injection computer signals. RFI also interefres with the radio reception, when car manufactuers first switched from points-type igniton systems to electronic, if you did not run resistor type plugs, you would get a loud buzzing sound from the car radio.

Resistor type plug wires are used for the same reason.

If your bike calls for resistor plugs and wires...and almost every car, truck and bike made since the late 70's do.....USE THEM....there is a reason for this
What does a Resistor do in a spark plug ? And why wont my bike start ?
just cuts down on the interference from your spark plugs to the radio.

    Something else is wrong.

    Crossed plug wires, perhaps ?

I'm trying to do this for the first time. I'm not sure how to go about it so if anybody can give me some ideas on whether this is better to take to a mechanic or is it actually possible for me to do on my own would be appreciated. Thanks alot. :)
I have a 2000 Plymoth Neon and I was wondering how hard was it to change the spark plug and wires?
Very easy to do yourself and even though it is cheap, you can still save about $50. First off go to an autoparts store and buy 4 spark plugs and the wires. Tell them what kind of car you have and they will get you what you need. If you don't have a tool set you will also need to buy a ratchet, 6%26quot; extension, and spark plug socket. You should really get an extension that will lock to the socket so that you dont get the socket stuck down the spark plug well. They will also be able to tell you what size spark plug socket you need. A spark plug socket looks just like a regular deep socket, but it has rubber inside to cusion the pocelin and help to keep you from breaking it. You will also need a spark plug gapper tool.

Now open your hood. Remove the first spark plug wire from the spark plug. It may be stuck on so be careful. Since you are replacing the wires as well it doesn't really matter, but usually you want to make sure that you pull from the rubber boot that fits over the plug and not the wire. If you pull from the wire you can pull the wire out of the boot and ruin the wire. Now put the socket and extension into the well and turn it until you feel the socket fit over the plug. Attach the ratchet and turn counter clockwise until you feel no more resistance and the plug can pull out. If the plug keeps falling out of the socket you can stick the boot back in the well and pull the plug out with that.

Next you will want to take out a new plug and gap it according to the specifications for your car. If you look on the underside of your hood you should find several stickers. One will tell you the proper spark plug gap. The gap refers to the space between the electrode of the plug and the metal above it. Most new plugs come pre-gapped, but I still like to double check. Now just put the plug back in the hole and tighten it up. Start tightening it without the ratchet to make sure that you don't cross thread it. It should go in very easy with no force for a few turns. When you are removing the plug and putting it back in make sure that the extension is perpendicular to the engine head. If you move it around from side to side you can break the spark plug because the body is made of porcelin (very fragile).

When the plug is back in follow the spark plug wire to the distributor and unplug it at that end. Now take out your new wires and find the one that is the same length and plug it into the distributor and the spark plug. Repeat for the other 3 cylinders.

Good luck with your project and thanks for not being lazy. OHC 4-cylinder engines are very easy to change plugs and wires because all the plugs are right on top of the engine and it is easy to get to them all.
I have a 2000 Plymoth Neon and I was wondering how hard was it to change the spark plug and wires?
you can totally do it yourself, but it's a cheap operation, I'd go with a pro
It's easy to do with mechanical knowledge. Without, I would let a shop do it.
I would check on Auto Tips . com possibly you can post your question. I myself see no problem in doing this---just be sure to do a plug/wire at a time--and do not forget to set the gap! Hope this helps you!

How to change the spark plug in a 2005 Yamaha Zuma scooter?

There should be a tool in your under seat storage that has a spark plug tool.

Underneath the scooter, close the the front of the transmission or directly underneath the passenger foot stands, there should be a ignition wire (it will be a soft rubber wire) connected to the spark plug. Go ahead a pull it off, it comes right off. Then use the tool like a socket to unscrew the spark plug (the screwdriver in the tool kit is used for leverage for you to twist the spark plug tool).

Replace the old plug with the new one, but do not force it in, as the teeth on the plug may strip. Take your time to get it lined up, at this point just using your hand as opposed to the tool might be easier. Once you start screwing it back in, use the tool to tighten it, just tight enough that you can do it with little effort. Just slip the ignition wire back on and you are ready to go.

My brother changed the spark plug and the old one has oil on the thread, is their a problem in the engine?

He think some thing crack or broke in the engine.
My brother changed the spark plug and the old one has oil on the thread, is their a problem in the engine?
Depends where the oil came from. If it is not using oil, the chances are it came from the top of the engine, perhaps at a top up or oil change - a little could have been spilled. It could perhaps be leaking from a gasket on the top end, which is usually easy and cheap to fix. Worst case is that it is coming from the engine bores, which could be anything from engine wear to a pressure relief valve blocked.

I would check for any obvious signs of oil on the top end that should not be there and also monitor the oil consumption - it should use less than a pint every 1,000 miles. Most modern engines use virtually none.
My brother changed the spark plug and the old one has oil on the thread, is their a problem in the engine?
It's probably just seepage at the valve cover gasket.
No, if it's just on the threads, it means the valve cover gasket is leaking a little and so oil collects in the plug area. However if the firing tip of the plug is fouled with oil that means something else.
Hard to tell for sure without seeing it, but most likely is that the valve cover gasket is leaking a bit and oil simply accumulated in there and covered the threads when the spark plug was removed. Way to tell... remove the spark plug, and put your finger into the cylinder. Oil in there? Does the car run poorly? If there is a bunch of oil in there, either you have a broken or worn cylinder ring, or even more likely worn valve guides. A compression test will reveal the problem.
I'd say look for a leaking valve cover gasket that would run oil down around the spark plug base.
Probably valve cover leaks or you miss the fill hole and oil runs down the block on to the spark plug. If the valve or rings were bad the plug would be fouled out and you would have a miss or low pressure on that cylinder As you didn't say the plug was fouled out or lose of power check the valve cover for leaks.
Since you did not bother to list the vehicle that you are working on I am going to take a guess and say that you have a car that has spark plugs that go down through the valve cover and have a long spark plug boot to reach the plug. This type motor has spark plug tube seals that go bad and let oil get down to the plugs and the oil slowly works its way down the plug toward the cylinders. This is not too bad to change and can normally be purchased from a parts store for around $20.00 to $30.00 and is called a complete valve cover gasket set. Change that and you should be fine. Hope I have been helpful.
the only thing wrong there is that you need new valve pan gaskets. as long as the oil is,nt on the firing tips on the plugs then there no internal damage.

    Changing spark plugs?

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima, and i'm about to change the spark plugs. I have a Haynes manual, and it's telling me that I need to remove the cover on top that says V6 3000, and then to remove the intake manifold collector. My question is what is the intake manifold collector? Do I need to do anything special like disconnect anything that could hurt me, i.e. battery? Apparently the older cars were easier to do tune ups on. After the intake manifold collector, I think I have the spark plug job under control, just seemed kinda interesting to read about the IMC. Anyways, thanks for any help!
    Changing spark plugs?
because th intake manifold collector overlaps the plugs them selves, that is why you have to remove that part. the only caution that i will give you is be very careful to mark where every thing went. you could be removing allot of wires. remember where all of the bolts went. disable the starter just to make sure, and use caution around the fuel system. it is not that difficult of an idea to do though. i did one years ago on gm 3.4 that was very similar in design really. just go step by step, you will do fine.
    Changing spark plugs?
remove the negitave side of the battery cable the imc is the part between the intake and the air filter the reason it needs removed is the height between the plugs and the imc it just makes it easyer to access the plugs i always take a air hose and blow off the top of the engine before i start a tune up that way any loose junk wont fall in the cylinder good luck ooh if you have a cell phone with camera take a picture of engine before starting that might help when going back with things
Why? Is the IMC in the way?? According to this page, removal of the IMC is not required to access the spark plugs.

    2. For how long we should change the spark plug, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, (( I am changing it after 10000 km , is it OK ? )).

    3. I need to know a web site for recommended parts for my old car .
What is the recommended spark plug for BMW ??
    Bosch WR8DC.

10000 Km is a bit early, should last 100-150K.

There are tons. Try http://www.bavauto.com for one. I just stumbled on it.
What is the recommended spark plug for BMW ??
bolsh is the best for bmw, volkswagon, and porche
Platinum-tipped Bosch plugs have always been my favorite. As for how often to change them, they can easily go up to 80,000 miles or even more, but I would check, clean and regap them every 15,000 miles.

  • Changing spark plugs on a 04 gmc 6.0 v8?

I tried to change my spark plugs on my truck the other day but found out that there is some kind of cover or plate around the plug wire end where it slips into the spark plug. i tried pulling at the end like i would on any other vehical but this cover around the end seems to keep it on. Any advice or tools that i need to use to take that cover off?
    Changing spark plugs on a 04 gmc 6.0 v8?
Its a heat sheild. I've found its best to use spark plug boot pliers to remove them. Twist/turn the boot at least 1/4 turn before pulling. Use silicon grease(made for plug wires) on inside of each boot when reinstalling them to help next removal
    Changing spark plugs on a 04 gmc 6.0 v8?
Could that be the ignition coil? Some are directly over the plugs. You need to unbolt it and it pops off the plug.
On older models that %26quot;cover plate%26quot; is actually a heat shield to protect the wires from the heat of the exhaust manifold and do not prevent you from removing the wire. Sometimes the wires are hard to remove when they have been there too long. Can this be the case?
I sure don't know much about GMC but my Honda has the spark plug coils to slip through the holes and female right on the spake plug nipple tips, be able to take them off and separate from the engine that you have to use the Allen Wrench to un-screw the Allen-Wrench screws so you can take it off.... good luck.

    About Changing Spark Plugs?

For the 2004 Camry, is the spark plug underneath the VVT-i Cover or behind it? If it is underneath it, how do I open the cover?
    About Changing Spark Plugs?
If you would call your local auto parts store and explain what you looking for on your car. I am sure they can help you out. Also you can buy yourself a repair manual for you car and in it it will tell you what you need to know.
    About Changing Spark Plugs?
i would say behind it and theirs probally screws on the corners if not it might slide off but i would recomend a haynes or chilton manual to tell you have to correctly remove it.
If you have to ask this it's already too complex for your abilities,

Deep well socket wont fit over spark plug?

I changed my spark plugs, all five but one. I have a 6 cylinder dodge dakota. i believe the bottom of the hole that the spark plug sits in is bent it towards the spark plug nut. its hard to explain. i couldnt get the socket to fit around the nut. i tried beating the socket in but it isnt working? can anybody help. i used a 5/8 spark plug socket.
Deep well socket wont fit over spark plug?
on that one i had to take a grinder and grind down one of my old ones to work on it,they will hit the block before the go on,there's also a possibility that someone may have cross threaded it,lets hope that didn't happen though, try another socket on it,that may work some are thicker than others and wont work in certain spots,if all else fails you have to grind one down and make it thinner so it will seat on it really good, other wise you may break the plug off in the engine,i hope you get it ,good luck ,and happy thanksgiving.
Deep well socket wont fit over spark plug?
i hope you get the threads straitened out on it good luck with it.

bend it back with a hammer lol
the spark plug socket is supposed to have rubber in the deep end to keep from breaking your plug look to see if it is waded up in the end if not try different socket good luck
    remove the heat shield first
That sucks...been there.... You need a THIN WALL 5/8 deep socket. The clearance is so tight between the cylinder head and the spark plug hex that you may think voodoo is necessary.

Don't hammer anything! If You can't find a thin wall socket....grind the one you have one the outside until it fits.

    Good luck!!!!
just grab you a pair of pliers then grab the white part of the plug and break it off. and if it still winy work Then you will have to grind you socket down to fit in th area

My motorbike dies after changing new spark plugs?

i recently chnged the spark plugs on my suzuki rf400 and now the bike acts like a ten ton truck, no power whatsoever. it also dies when the throttle is closed. somene suggested split pipe of timimg problm. can anyone elaborate .
My motorbike dies after changing new spark plugs?
check your gaps for your plugs. Go get a gap tool available at any auto parts store and set them to the manufacturers specs. (usually .60) Make sure you have the right plugs too. Look in your owners manual for recommended plug part numbers. Some plugs burn hot and some %26quot;cold%26quot;, this can effect you engine as well. Not just any old plug will do. Good luck.
My motorbike dies after changing new spark plugs?
If all you did is change the plugs there is a limit to what could have gone wrong. Assuming you bought the correct spec plugs and that they are correctly gapped you are left with the order of the HT leads (did you number them before removing them?) or the quality of the HT leads and caps.
When changing the spark plugs, one or more high tension leads (spark plug wires) could have been pulled out of the spark plug caps, making a poor connection.

OR the plug caps aren't pressed onto the spark plugs enough.

Check the temperature of each exhaust pipe to make sure each cylinder is running.

Will changing your spark plugs disrupt the firing order of your engine?

    Thank You
Will changing your spark plugs disrupt the firing order of your engine?
No changing the plugs will have no affect on the firing order, however, if you mix the wires up when putting them back on that will cause problems. Solution is to do one plug at a time.
Will changing your spark plugs disrupt the firing order of your engine?
no. just change one at a time.
just make sure you dont mix up the plug wires when doing it, so you know they go back where they came off
Only if you get the wires mixed up. You can mark the wires #1 thru 6 or 8 with chalk or masking tape with a number on it. Just take it off when you have finished.
Only if you dont put the plug wires on in the same order as you took them off, and if they were on in the right order to begin with.
only if you mix up the spark plug wires. suggest to change one at a time and be sure to check the gap on the new plugs before installing.
no just don't get the spark plug wires from distributor wrong order

Spark plug wires out of order?

I have a Kia Sedona and had the spark plugs changed, but the wires leading into the spark plugs are not in the order they are supposed to be. 1,3,5 are supposed to be at the back and 2,4,6 towards the front, but on the wires infront it says 5,1,3. Is this going to cause a problem? Are wires all the same, so it doesn't make much difference where they go?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Spark plug wires out of order?
As long as the correct wire out of the coil is going to the correct plug, they could have any number on them they want. If its not misfiring, then leave them be. It WAS unprofessional to do that, however.
Spark plug wires out of order?
Does it run and drive? If so, it does not matter what # is printed on the wire....the plug can't read.

As long as the plug is connected to the proper coil it will be fine

My 3rd cylinder keeps destroying its spark plug and ideas?

When I remove the spark plug its covered in oil and the cylinoids on the fireing end are gone. Already changed plugs and wires twice The car is a '99 VW GTI
My 3rd cylinder keeps destroying its spark plug and ideas?
I believe the most common thing for that oil in that cylinder, is a cracked valve seal. When that happens the cylinder sucks in oil down the valve stem.
My 3rd cylinder keeps destroying its spark plug and ideas?
Your rings in the engine are probably bad (gone). That repair would require tearing down the engine. Do you get a lot of smoke out the exhaust piipe? You could try an additive to the oil that is supposed to stop the engine from smoking but those don't always work or at least not for long. I speak from personal experience with 2 vehicles. Replace the engine, have it torn down and rebuilt,or replace the car, its only going to get worse.
Bad valve seal and you are fouling the plug with oil..Change the plug every oil change or get a new car...
it may be a burnt valve ( intake or exhaust)
    maybe a valve seal

    head gasket or piston rings

    cracked block or head
    You got yourself a dousy.
they used to sell a small cap device that you could put on the end of the spark plug to prevent it from fouling. maybe the cylinder head has a large carbon buildup on it and is hitting the bottom of the spark plug thereby destroying it.

the oil may mean two things to me

bad rings in that cylinder, not unusual

when the spark plug is destroyed it can no longer get rid of the oil by burning it off.

    take the plug out

get the cylinder head to the top of the cylinder and see (not easy) if you can look into the spark plug hole using a small good strong flashlight, to see if you can see that buildup i spoke of.

    hope that's of some help.
there is a couple of things that can be wrong... the most likely it the valve seal is bad on that cylinder, this is letting oil leak into the combustion chamber and fouling your plug, I would say this is your problem... but it could also be the piston rings worn or maybe one is broken... a mechanic can do a compression test on the cylinder very easily to tell if that is what it is
You're car is leaking oil into the combustion chamber. That engine is gonna need a lot of work. Wires aren't the answer.
it could be a bad valve seal or a stuck oil ring. try flushing the engine out and when you change the oil and filter pour some cd2 in it, and if you have the money, get some hotter plugs
If its covered in oil thats either the rings are worn or the valve stem /stem seals. Have a compression test performed to determine which one.

Nissan v6 engine, there is a limtted access to change the rear spark plugs due to the plenum or intake manifold. The very last one in the back can be accessed by removing the metal tubing that leads to the pcv valve, this will give you a better clearance to remove also the direct ignition coil and the spark plug. Hope this helps. Have fun!!.

I did pretty close to what John Paul said and was right on the money. I removed the hood which was only four bolts. The masking tape was a great part of this trick. I used the socket, a long extension, then the U joint then a four inch extention. Be patient. You can do it.

How do i change spark plug?

an y experts? im trying to change it for civic 2000 LX. is it hard? any picture guides or anything? what else do i have to do for major tune up?
How do i change spark plug?
It has gotten very difficult in the last ten years! I don't know if your car has a coil pack for every cylinder like most new cars do or if you can even see them. Most new cars have the spark plug in a deep hole in the center of the valve cover, the coil pack is directly over the spark plug so there are no plug wires. I have never do it yet but it seem me to be easy enough to remove the coil pack to get at the spark plug below it. You need thin wall spark plug socket and a long extension on your socket wrench. Make sure the engine is cold, the steel threads of the spark plug will damage the aluminum threads of the heads if the engine is hot. That is how it looks to me, if you have a distributor with plug wires then its easy. Remember one at a time all the time.

How do I change the oil and spark plug on a SeaDoo Jet Ski?

I need to change the oil and spark plug myself a my 2000 SeaDoo. Can anyone help?
How do I change the oil and spark plug on a SeaDoo Jet Ski?
No need to change the oil. It's a two stroke engine!

You are supposed to keep the oil tank full with two-stroke oil and it mixes with the gas to and lubricates the engine. There is no oil pan full of oil as on a car.

To change the plugs, (there are two) twist and puul the wires off. Use a suitable socket, or an adjustable wrench will work, remove the old plugs and replace with new. Use NGK BR8-ES plugs.

Here is a link where you can see all your ski parts, and order parts; http://www.xtremepowersports.com/OEM_Par鈥?/a>

well at the bottom of the oil resivoir theres a bolt you unscrew, and the oil will come out there, when its all gone, you can change the oil filter as well, just unscrew, and put in the new one, and put new oil in. for the spark plugs, your going to take off the wire on top of the spark plugs, you'll want a socket to take of the plugs, and put new ones in.
make sure you gap the plug correctly (I think 28-32 thousands)

You can purchase a gap tool that resembles a dollar coin size at the auto parts store where you can purchase the spark plugs to

What do i do when a piece of spark plug went into my cylinder?

my dad was trying to change my spark plug on a 2003 ford escort when one broke and a piece fell into cylinder and its not metal so i cant use a magnet its my first car and if there a easy way to get it out please help.
What do i do when a piece of spark plug went into my cylinder?
Shouldn't be too bad. Turn the crank if necessary until the piston is not too close to top dead center. Get about 6 feet of cotton rope, about 1/4 inch diameter, and coat it liberally with Vaseline while feeding it into the spark plug hole. Slowly twisting in one direction should cover the most area. When it gets to the end, withdraw it while guiding the rope so it doesn't scrape against the spark plug hole, or only scrapes on one side if the angle is bad - you are hoping the piece stuck to the rope. It may take a few of those slimy fishing expeditions to snare the offender. When you are done the Vaseline left in the cylinder will be dissolved away in the oil - there won't be enough to worry about.
What do i do when a piece of spark plug went into my cylinder?
Try this it may seem daft get a wooden thin stick or even a drinking straw and cover the end in gease then going fishing (do not bother bringing the piston up to top dead centre because it ii easier to move the stick/straw around on the piston crown when the piston is half way down.

    Good luck
if you can see it try using 1 of those tools that has jaws on it. or you could try this. it might sound funny but get a stick and put some chewing gum on it and see if it will stick to it and pull it out.
I would say take the top of the engine off, or if the thing was light and would float, you could flood that cylinder with water and have it float out, but that would screw other stuff up.
time to pull the head. sorry. If you try anything else, you risk ruining your engine. The only safe way is to pull the head and use a new headgasket when you put it back together.
Turn the engine by hand s l o w l y untill the piston comes to the top.

Use a piece of wire and bubblgum to get the pieces out.
try a straw and a vacuum cleaner..with most vacuums you can see the part when you get it out

Car engine is missing, is spark plug fouled?

I have a 2003 Volkswagon Passat 4 cyl, turbo. I thought it was bad gas, added dry gas which lessened the problem, had spark plugs changed, mechanic speculated possible oil in spark plug cell, car engine continues to miss, not as badly as before, but seems to be more apparent when in reverse or when car is stopped at a light. I'm usually always on top of things concerning the car.
Car engine is missing, is spark plug fouled?
NEVER use dry gas!!! It is methanol, usually. Methanol can eat through major rubber components, like fuel pressure regulator diaphragms! If your check engine light is on, (and it should be). try Auto Zone first for a free OBD II test. It might be coil pak. Clean your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE with spray Gum-out. Do this yearly. While you are at it, clean your throttle body and plate to showroom clean, as well. REMEMBER that you can ONLY use oil in this car that meets VW/Audi specification 502/505. THere are only about 3-4 oils that can do this. Mobil One, Amzoil, and my favorite, ELF oil. THese have special ingredients that keep them from coking out on the hot turbo bearings. Also, try power washing your entire engine bay. A car like this should always have a clean engine, anyway. Good luck!! VW's have %26quot;dumb%26quot; computers that must be told when engine sensors (including coil paks) are changed. In other words, you will have to have a VW master computer reprogram your CPU. Only do this AFTER you are certain everything else is OK. Also, be sure to change your timing belt ON TIME, according to your manual. These engines WILL self-destruct (and cost BIG $$$$) if the timing belt breaks. GET WISE!!! Do preventative maintenance!
Car engine is missing, is spark plug fouled?
Iwould like to thank all of you who came to my aid. Including the guy who said file a police report. This is the best forum that I've ever joined. This particular VW 4 cylinder engine is known for bad ignition coil on plug.

Click on the link below to see what ignition coil on plug looks like.

I know you did mention the problem gets little better after you add dry gas, any chemical added inside gas tank does change volatility of gasoline and then it changes engine performance.

You can spend tons of money on chemical stuff but it doesn't work well all the time.

    Here's what you should do.

If you have scanner or you know good technician.

Scan for codes or look for misfire graph on scanner.

Let鈥檚 say cylinder #3 is misfiring, you should have code p0303 or the graph for #3 cylinder reads off the scale.

Swap ignition coil on plug between cylinder #3 and #2.

Rerun the test again on scanner. If the misfire code is now p0302 or misfire graph for cylinder #2 is off the scale then you found the problem.

Replace the ignition coil on plug.

If the problem didn't change, then you can do the same thing by swapping the spark plug.

If swapping the spark plug didn't do anything for you then only two thing left....faulty injector or engine mechanical.

    Good Luck
You need to find out exactly which 'cell' (the term is cylinder) it is, then check the new plug to see if it is still fouling. More than likely it is, so then you need to determine why. Do the checks you are capable of and then take it to a mechanic if necessary.
clean the mass air sensor, new plug wires and put some sea foam in the gas and put 93 octane in when you put the sea foam in.sea foam is a very good cleaner it will clean the injectors, the valves and the piston and rings.give it a shot.
Let the mechanic take another look it might be something simple like a bad plug wire
If the car engine is missing, perhaps someone stole it!

You should file a police report...
It could be a list of things causing this. Is it a true miss (where one of the cylinders is misfiring), or is this just a rough idle? There is a big difference, and will help you diagnose it. A miss can only be so many things. A rough idle can be many more things.

If it's a miss, which is usually recognized by a consistent misfiring which happens over and over again. It can run smooth for x # of nanoseconds, then %26quot;dip%26quot;, it misfires. You can have a full misfire where there is nothing at all happening in the cylinder, and then you can have a partial misfire, where something is happening, but not at full strength. Full misfires are caused by no spark (check spark in every cylinder to make sure). Full misfires can also be caused by a bad injector that has died or fully plugged. Using a stethoscope, you can listen to the injectors to see if they are all ticking, which means it's working from an electrical standpoint (but still could be clogged). Partial misfires can be caused by a partly clogged or leaking injector or weak spark.

    -- Now for a rough idle --

I would check and clean your IAC (idle air control) valve first. A lean air/fuel mixture can cause a miss, and that would certainly do it, and is known to do it.

I would also suspect a clogged fuel filter. Those are also common on the checklist.

Being a turbo, there could be an issue where it's pushing in too much or too little air, throwing your air/fuel mixture off. There is a control valve in your turbo unit that could be checked to make sure it's properly controlling the air pressure.

It could also be a vacuum leak. Check all hoses, especially your elbows and hoses to the PCV valve. Check PCV valve, if it rattles, then it's good. I know one guy who had a hard time keeping his car running, only to find out that there was a vacuum leak with the hose going to his PCV valve.

Clean MAF with special cleaner. Do NOT touch the little wires in the sensor, just spray them down good from all angles.

Fuel pressure regulator might be to blame as well, if it's causing too low fuel pressure, that can throw off your air/fuel mixture as well. Testing your fuel pressure is a good way to check your fuel filter, fuel pump, and regulator all at the same time.

Oh, and if you have 50,000 miles on your car, check with a manual or parts store to see how often you should be changing your oxygen sensor. Often it's 50,000 miles, sometimes it's 100,000 miles. That can also throw off your air/fuel mixture.

Wow, I said a lot! I hope this helps though.
A computer code check should be performed, even if the check engine light is not on, and any codes stored checked out, and then cleared.

A valuable tool, that is now digital and computerized, is an engine analyzer. I personally liked the analog type with real time output for reading firing times(the scope).

The firing time on a vehicle is a measurement of the time that a spark takes to travel from the coil and cross the electrode on the plug. This is measured in milliseconds and each cylinder can be compared for a problem.

Another very valuable tool is a vacuum gage. So many mechanics and technicians fail to use this and I do not know why. A vacuum leak can cause several problems. 1)- a lean miss fire. Depending on the location of the leak a cylinder could draw in too much oxygen which will adversely affect stociometrics( the ideal air/fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1) causing incomplete combustion.

2)- a map/baro. sensor false reading thus an erroneous code. This can cause a mechanic to replace a good part and a false explanation why you are paying for it and still have a problem.

3)- A false(lean) oxygen sensor code. A good salesman/mechinic might seccessively explain that this part has an expected replacement mileage, thus needing replacement. At this point in life I am sure that preventive maintenance, although important, is of less concern than solving a problem, and not spending a few hundred extra dollars for the fun of it.

4)- A very pronounced idle miss.

5)- an engine idle r.p.m. to be erratic or even higher than normal.

After this is a wet and dry compression test. This test the rings, valves(valve seals), and head gasket or even a crack in a cylinder.

With the use of these tools, and a technician able to trouble shoot, guess work is cut out, a vehicle can be repaired, and wasted spent money saved.

Whew! I used to be better when I was active so pardon any incompleteness or vagueness.

Good luck with your search for a good technician.

    Changing spark plugs?

do i need to wait for certain problems to occur in my vehicle before changing the spark plugs or is there a recommended KM/miles to change the spark plugs. and wut are the benefits in changing the sparkplugs? t.Y all!
    Changing spark plugs?
This kind of falls under that old saying %26quot;if it ain't broke, don't fix it%26quot;.

With todays vehicles we have fuel injection and computerized ignitions, and that most likely contributes to the longevity of the spark plugs.

The company I worked for had vans that went over 100,000 miles without replacing plugs, and they started and ran perfectly in extreme temperatures.

But every vehicle is different, and your may require new plugs right away. When it starts running poorly, then is the time to start looking for remedies.

Obvious benefits are it will start better and get better fuel economy.
    Changing spark plugs?
depends on the car and year, just drive it until it starts running bad and then take it in :)
All vehicles have a recommended service schedule which includes changing spark plugs at around 60,000 miles.

Plugs should be changed even if there are no noticeable problems. Decline in engine performance is slow, and we tend to adapt to it. You should notice a difference in your vehicle after changing the plugs. It is also a good idea to change the ignition wires while you're at it.
your book will tell when the intervals are.when you change plugs, then you have better conbustion.
There is a recommended change interval probably in your owners manual. Over time spark plugs deteriorate from producing the spark When this happens it changes the spark plug gap causing irregular spark and missing. You don't have to wait to change them. When you do change them. Wait for the engine to be cold. Don't change them when the engine is hot or warm because it could cause you to cross thread it by putting a cold spark plug in an heated up expanded hole. Check on the sticker under your hood. It should specify the proper spark plug gap that you need to gap the new plugs to.

If the plugs come with a little crush gasket thread it into the hole by hand a tight as you can with no tools or a socket not attached to a ratchet, Then go 3/4 of a turn tighter with a ratchet attached.

If it doesn't have a crush gasket then tighten it as tight as you can like before with no tools and turn it 1/8th of a turn more with a ratchet. this will keep you from over tightening them,
It depends on the model and type of plugs used. Even if they are titanium or platinum plugs, I would have them checked every 50,000km/ 30,000 miles. It keeps the threading and wells of the spark plugs from carbon build up. When it is time to change the plugs it makes it easier to replace them.

How can I change the spark plug in my voyager if the 3 of them are way far in the back?
im a macanic and i will tell you that is sucks, you have to reach around the engine and use wratchet wranch and extentions and stuff or you might be able to get it from underneith. either way its a pain
How can I change the spark plug in my voyager if the 3 of them are way far in the back?
    From underneath the van.
The best possible way to get the plugs are from under the van. They certainly don't make it easy on the caravan/voyager models. I dread doing mine!
Best thing to do is get it on a lift. As one other person said, even on a lift it's a pain.
Depending on the year of the van, you can:

    A) Access the plugs from underneath the vehicle (easier on a lift)

    or

    B) Remove the intake plenum to give yourself room to access the plugs from the top (make sure you replace the gaskets when you reinstall the plenum),

Or if it is after 1996

    C) You can remove the cowl from under the windshield (after you remove the windshield wiper arms) and that will give you enough room to reach the plugs!

    Thanks, Rick
Tips for changing rear spark plugs in 2007 Impala 3.5L V6?
You put that many miles on it already? Service interval for plugs on that car is 100,000 miles. Do you ever stop, or are you changing them early?

The service manual only advises removing the air cleaner outlet duct and the intake manifold cover (the %26quot;beauty%26quot; cover over the engine). Nothing in it about rolling the engine like the old W car.
Tips for changing rear spark plugs in 2007 Impala 3.5L V6?
On many cars it is helpful to use a REAL spark plug socket, one that has a hex head on the end that the ratchet or extension goes in. You may be able to get the socket on the plug and use a wrench on it to break it loose. I've done this on my '00 Blazer and my Wife's '01 blazer. Hope this helps.
much easyer done on lift very hard from top side

How do I change the spark plugs on an Infiniti QX4?

I would like know how to change spark plugs Specifically for an Infiniti QX4. I would also like to know what tools will I need to perform this task. I was told that the spark plugs on an Infiniti are positioned differently from other cars. This is why I am asking specific details on changing spark plugs for an Infiniti QX4.
How do I change the spark plugs on an Infiniti QX4?
Not as straight forward an operation as you might hope. First, locate the coil packs. The Infiniti has a small coil mounted on top of each spark plug. This is why you will not see any heavy gauge spark plug wires running from a coil or distributor to the obvious location of the spark plug. The coil packs are attached with a 10mm bolt. In many cases other items, (air filter assembly, brackets loaded with stuff) must be removed even to see the coil packs. Be very careful with the coils as they are expensive to replace. The coil pack will reach down into the engine 8-10%26quot; to where the spark plug actually sits. You will need a long socket adapter to reach in and actually remove the spark plug. To change all 6 plugs, plan to spend about three hours if you have never done this before.
How do I change the spark plugs on an Infiniti QX4?
you should either get ahold of the repair manual (or online version like alldata) to make sure you do it correctly with all the right torques.

Or find an Infiniti forum and ask there to see if others have done it and written it up.

The spark plugs themselves should be pretty standard procedure, but likely you need to loosen and move a bunch of parts to access them, which is the harder part.

How do change the spark plugs on an 92 acura legend? Theres no spark plug wires...?

I'm trying to eliminate a %26quot;shake%26quot; i get from the engine sometimes at redlights. It just one little shutter about 1x per minute. It drives, revs, and accelerates fine. any other ideas?

change the plugs by taking it to your mechanic

How do change the spark plugs on an 92 acura legend? Theres no spark plug wires...?
    maybe you got a diesel
Pull hard. The bottom of the cap makes a vacuum over the top of the plug. Might help to rotate the cap 90 degrees. Once the screws are out and the wire is unclipped, it should pull straight out.

    How to actually remove it?

Easy ! There is one ignition coil FOR EACH SPARK PLUG in this engine- six total You remove the two 10mm nuts holding each coil to the head cover, then the coils just lift right out. The spark plug is down in a well under its coil. You will see the top of the spark plug after that plug's coil is removed. There are three on each side. The drivers side may have a metal brace bar in the way. Unbolt this to get to the back coil and spark plug. Note that these are Platinum plugs and are not cheap. Use only the correct Acura recommended plugs. They are good for 60000 miles under normal use assuming the engine is in good shape. You need a standard deep-well spark plug socket tool to remove and install them. Caution: This engine has aluminum heads. DO NOT cross thread the plugs or you will have a big expensive problem. Also DO NOT remove them while engine is hot. You may want to blow out the dirt from the wells before taking the plugs out too, so nothing gets into the cylinders. Put a drop of oil or anti-seize on the threads of the new plugs. Makes them easier to get out next time.
it probably is the plugs in it,that a common problem with those, the coil packs set on top of the plugs with a very short wire, good luck.
you have a cracked Vacuum line some where that is not far gone yet but do to change in the temp and engine vacuum it comes and goes

Is there a tool that makes removing spark plug boots easier?

I haven't changed my spark plugs in a while. Three of them are behind the engine in an akward position and the boots wouldn't come out. I didn't want to pull too hard because I didn't want to rip the wire. I have a 1999 Monte Carlo.
Is there a tool that makes removing spark plug boots easier?
Yes. It's called a spark plug boot remover. Several types are available. Most of them resemble a needle nose plier with the ends bent down in an %26quot;L%26quot; shape. The ends are also coated with rubber to prevent damage to the boot.

Any parts store should carry them.

When putting the boot back on, be sure to coat the inside with some %26quot;di-electric%26quot; grease. This prevents the boot from freezing onto the plug and making it easier to remove the next time. It also increases the contact between plug and connector.
Is there a tool that makes removing spark plug boots easier?
There is a plug boot tool. Head over to AutoZone or Sears or stop a MAC or SnapOn truck and ask for a spark plug wire tool (I think) the salesperson will know what you want when you describe your job.
Yes, there is a tool similar to a fork that goes around the cable underneath the boot. Any good parts store will have them. Some will loan you one.
My guys looked at me and laughed...Great question. I didn't even know they use them. I am old I guess, I am getting a pair for home.....Oh that's right my guys do my car work for me.....
Yes there is. There are 2 types that I know of.

    1. the type that pushes over the boot, looks like a screwdriver

    2. the type that resembles a set of pliers, with rubber covers over the jaws.

Either or both types are available at Advance Auto Parts or at J.C. Whitney.
Yes usually available in any auto parts store. It is called a boot puller. Most are less than $10.00, also remember to add lubricant inside the boot when putting back on to make future removal easier.

that all depends on how much it's used. if you race, you should change, (the spark plug at least) every 4 races or so. if you don't, use it much i'd say about every two and a half months. i'm sure you can figure out the median to those two ends.

How come my car wont start after changing my spark plug wires?
So it worked fine for a while and then suddenly didn't work. Perhaps you didn't get the coil wire plugged far enough into the distributor cap, and from engine vibration it worked out far enough to cause what you see, or rather don't see. Make sure the wires go in far enough to %26quot;click%26quot;.
How come my car wont start after changing my spark plug wires?
Remove and clean your battery cable connectors and the battery posts with a wire brush as shown in the video below. You have a bad connection at the battery.

    http://www.ehow.com/how_512_replace-car-鈥?/a>
Sounds like one of your plug cables is not firmly connected to either the plug or the distributor. Even if they feel tight pull them off and double check. Sometimes the metal connection acceptor inside the rubber end get bent and don't make a good connection.
make sure your wires are connected completly.

What kinds of spark plug are best for a 03 ACURA RSX type s?

I have a 03 acura rsx type s. i need to change the spark plugs, however there are so many choices out there. Such as NGK Iridium or Ngk platium. Then there Denso. All of theses are quite costly so i want to get some feedback before i make my choice.
What kinds of spark plug are best for a 03 ACURA RSX type s?
The reason Iridium plugs are so expensive is because the material is NOT manufactured on earth. It comes from meteorites and asteroids. If you have no performance upgrades, or just bolt ons, then the factory plugs will be just fine. A common misconception is just because you have high output plugs is you are going to generate more spark, which is FALSE unless you have some sort of high output ignition to fire the spark to them.
What kinds of spark plug are best for a 03 ACURA RSX type s?
what ever you do, do not get autolite or champion, total garbage. you should get double platinum tipped plugs. Platinum stays clean and doesn't corrode, the reason double platinum is because one sided platinum tipped is a bit pointless because you will not get the benefits of platinum if the non platinum coated electrode is corroded. The only iridiums I recommend are the ones that are coated on both electrodes. Those are very expensive, getting single coated iridium plugs are pointless and a money waster. But Iridium is better than platinum. Denso and NGK are fantastic brands, theres a reason they come standard equipment on cars like Ferrari and the Nissan GTR

    Thank you !
How do you remove spark plugs on a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE? Do you have to change the spark plug tubes, too?
Sometime the cyl head gasket leaks and the spark plugs become stuck in the Cyl head. If you run across one that only turns 1/4 turn and binds up watch out forcing the plug will break it off. After removing the coils. Spark plug seals on the plastic valve cover stay with the cover no tubes to deal with either. No special tools just be careful use NGK spark plugs designed for that motor. Not Bosch (wrong resistance) other brands Nippondenso has a good iridium plug that will work. And NGK exact replacement are the only ones to use. Look at how long the threaded section is it has to match up.

How do you change a spark plug?
Pull off your plug wire. Unscrew your old plug. Screw in your new plug. Replace wire or just reuse the old one if you didn't pull the metal out of it. (You would Know if you did because there would be a metal cap stuck to the plug that the new one wont have)
How do you change a spark plug?
Do them one at a time to prevent mixing the wires up.

Have a spark plug wrench that fits. Twist the spark plug wire boot to unstick it and pull the wire off the spark plug, holding the connector so it doesn't pull off the wire. Fit the wrench all the way on the spark plug and twist it anticlockwise to unscrew it. Be careful to hold the spark plug after it comes loose so it doesn't fall down the where ever so you can't get it , or it hits the ground and you have to go crawling under the car. Take the new spark plug and check the electrode gap to make sure it's correct. Position the gasket all the way on the spark plug, not on the threads. Rub a little anti seize compound on the spark plug threads- I just use a drop of engine oil, but that's me. By hand, if you can, start the new sparkplug straight in its hole. If it starts crooked, unscrew it and do it again straight. Tighten down the sparkplug to whatever tightness it's supposed to have- 1/4 turn beyond seated or 14 ft Lbs or what your repair manual says is right. Pay paticular attention to this with Fords. They've been known to have the plugs loosen and fly out when you don't do it right. Put the wire back on and make sure it's on all the way. You can put some silicone lube on the inside of the wire boot to keep it from sticking to the spark plug. It's easier than it sounds, but it can be made hard by haste and carelessness.
Yes, i would have Bruce change it so you won't have to worry about it. Use a Splitfire plug.
Ok Fabian, don't worry about changing the plug. Just have Bruce go out and intimidate the plug into working correctly again.

For those who don't get the %26quot;Fabian%26quot; reference, it's from Pulp Fiction, Bruce Willis is taking a shower during her main scene.

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

The Honda VFR Interceptor has been in production since 1986 and has been made in different engine sizes.

There is nothing complicated about it.

Remove the plugs with a spark plug wrench.

You definitely need a service manual.

You need to put it on a scanner and read the trouble code OK, something smells here. People with 2 year old Town Cars aren't changing spark plugs and asking Yahoo Answers about a car that is almost certainly still under factory warranty. Spark plugs are good for 100,000 miles now.. So is it really a 97? or you stole it and cannot take it in for warranty work? What is your story Joe?
After changing the spark plugs in a 2007 lincoln town car, what else could cause it to jerk and hesitate?
I think the '07's should've had individual ignition coils. One of those could have gone bad. Otherwise, assuming the check engine light isn't on, you probably have a vacuum leak. Start the engine and raise the hood. Listen for a hissing sound. Also try diagnosing by clamping down on vacuum lines with pliers while the engine is running and see if that makes a difference. You won't need brakes, cruise control, or an HVAC system when the car is parked, but you'll need to make sure the EGR valve opens when the engine gets to operating temp, and you should inspect the fuel vapor vent hose as well, which also opens when the engine is warm.
Bad fuel filter, bad fuel injectors, bad fuel pump, bad ECM, bad ignition wires, bad distributor cap, bad rotor, bad mass air flow sensor and many more things. Better let a mechanic take over Rover!

Are spark plug wires suppose to be bound together?

My friend changed the spark plugs wires for me and then wrapped black electrical tape around the middle where they were loose. Is that alright to do that?
Are spark plug wires suppose to be bound together?
That's not a good deal particularly with old ignition wires. Modern cars knock out a tremendous amount of voltage to the spark plugs. When wires are taped together you stand the change of a cross-fire between the wires. Shop around for some slick wire separator looms for your wires.
Are spark plug wires suppose to be bound together?
First thing to do is take that tape off. They should be separated using a wire loom holder. You can buy the plastic ones for next to nothing.
Good answers above and you can also slip %26quot;wire loom%26quot; sections over individual wires to protect them and keep the spark from jumping to ground or each other where necessary along the wire.

    http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Searc鈥?/a>
to be Honest no...ive done it with an older cuttless befor, just like the others said go and buy a separator for the wires and that will help also keep em clear of any hot place (engine, Radiator lines, Etc) meaning don't let them touch or u have to buy new ones.
Sorry, but I need to disagree with a previous answer.

Flexible conduit for automotive use is fine for what it's designed for: wire looms.

But NEVER fit %26quot;wire loom%26quot; conduit over any HT leads: the leads do vibrate and rub on the loose outer conduit, in addition condensation forms overnight on the inside surface and can cause poor starting in the morning until it's evaporated. The conduit also hides any spark tracking which sometimes occurs on the outside of faulty HT leads making fault diagnosis more difficult. HT leads do heat up in use and covering them inhibits cooling; on modern carbon-cored silicone leads this results in premature ageing and subsequent early replacement. But most importantly, regular conduit can melt or catch fire at the temperatures which occur at the spark plug end of HT leads, and the green high temp version can do the same on air-cooled engines despite being flame resistant.

Just use the correct HT lead separators as others have advised.

The Delco plugs in the car are factory issue, and if GM deems them well enuf for that, then use them .

The splitfire plugs are OK but a bit expensive and the normal Delcos work as well as the Splitfire, and yah the back plugs are a b---h ....
Changing spark plugs on my car.?
The spitfire spark plugs are made to give more spark when needed.

they throw a lot more spark than a normal spark plug.

The choice is up to you.

Delco plugs last a long time. But if you want more firing power put the spitfires in.

let me give you a lil hint to easily changin the back plugs. there is a coil pack on the top middle portion of your engine. unbolt it and this will give you plenty of room to work.
just use the basic spark plug

have fun on the back 3!

What is the "correct" way to change a spark plug boot on a 1994 Honda xr250 L?

I can't seem to find any info on how to do this . I've done this on plenty of cars but I'm a novice with the bikes.
What is the %26quot;correct%26quot; way to change a spark plug boot on a 1994 Honda xr250 L?
I'm not sure about the 94, but on earlier models ,the boot and connector are one unit.

There is a threaded post that screws / pushes into the core of the wire.

Pull the old boot, clip a 1/2%26quot; of wire ,lube with silicone, push the new boot on until it engages the wire.

Car or bike, makes no difference. Boot changing is still the same. Slide the rubber piece on the wire, then put your end on, making sure to have GREAT connections. Then slide the rubber back down and wallaha done.

Get a professional do it,one mistake you make will be very expensive, the plugs needs to be torqued down, over or under tighten will ruin the engine, plus many parts have to be removed to gain working spaces, the way you asking sound like you are not up to the task, sorry to say this to you but I just try to help.

Dude, I'd help you if I could but you haven't said what the problem is. Do you need to know what these tools are and what they look like. Anyway add some more info. BTW if you don't know what the tools are or not sure what you're doing then you prolly shouldn't be doing it. I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't want you to do harm to your car that can be avoided. anyway good luck

What is the Spark Plug Torque on Honda Delsol Si?
Torque specs for your car is 13ft-lbs. for the plugs but I prefer to thread them in by hand and then do 1/4 turn
What is the Spark Plug Torque on Honda Delsol Si?
I know I might sound like a scratched record but I do allot of my own mechanic work and the first thing I do when I buy a car is buy the service manual for it.They are usually under $20.00 and will answer almost all of your service questions including torque specs.
ive never had to torque one down before easy to just tighten it down and give it a bump to check its tight that's good enough doesn't take much torque but can cal auto parts store and get info id guess and say 10 to 20 pounds or less not much more than hand tight

ive always just run them up by hand couple turns to tighten and give it a bump check been doing it that way 40 yrs but you can get torque setting on any parts from parts store
10 ft lbs should do it
snug.just snug em, they dont need to be tightened super tight.just bottom them out, then give a max of 1/8 turn.but that may even be to much.just snugg em.
use anti seize on them if head is aluminum
